volcanic island of Fiji
By our education levels system and geographical layout Fiji is a volcanic island
Little is beknown in the formation of the 300 plus islands of Fiji said in text book as aftermath of volcanic explosions.
There is no history of a Fijian word that describes a volcanoe...no language.
There are different description in Tailevu called the wanibuka...translated lfiewood water or river.
River means could mean a body of water in glass
A river..or a decsription of the sea as waiting...which means king or chief water
Cheifly means other
Huge big gigantic
This means large. It is used for authority etc specifically the size of what is described
Another word is Nawaikama.
Nawaikama means firey water it does sound or gives one a picture of a firey water.
Since this is a costal village in Fiji in the lomaiviti group one cannot draw conclusions as to what this word pretains to
Other than these two words from different provinces of Fiji,no word directly describes the presence or relations with a volcanoe enough to name it.
On the contrary there could be words used in the dialects used in the various regions of Fiji that have been in instinct through the changes and elms of time.
Colonialism and it's effects should and could be a factor also
On other thought is that volcanoes seldom blow up in Fiji long enough to acquire a Fijian description.
In this conclusion I think that volcanoes do erupt in Fiji but not frequently enough be described ..applied a word as in hurricane and typhoons that frequently happen.
Secondly time has anihalated diminish such a word and distinguished it's use a while ago..the vocab they used for it has long disappeared in history.
